Unless it’s an ear candle. Why are they scented?
So, you stick it in your ear….and then you light it?

you mean they aren’t made out of ear wax (gag)…at least i don’t think mine is scented! =o)
Well, I actually know what those are for and have used them. It’s a hollow candle, they wrap beeswax soaked muslin around dowels and let it dry. Then you poke one end in your ear, light the top, and it draws up ungodly looking earwax from the recesses of your brain. I did it when I was about 15 and the things that came out of my head… oy vey! NASTY! But it worked. And then I used them again when I was a “gwown-up” but with not as much result. The hubs thinks they’re a farce, (but he’s like the Skeptic King about natural health things), but I don’t know for sure. All I can say is when it was sucking marble sized orange wads out of my head when I was 15, it felt lots better.
The scented thing is rather disturbing, though. Mmmm…. lavendar ear canals. Sexy.
And that looks like a pretty good buy on that many candles!
Light one in a vase and light one in your ear to compare the “results”. They will have exactly the same gunk at the bottom of them when they are done.
Yep. True. Done that.
Yes they are a complete fake, I’ve done this too.
I have friends who swear by them. But I have yet to try one out. Hey, I have long hair. It might catch on fire!
Oh my gosh! Until I saw they were beeswax I thought they must be made of ear wax! Bleck.
I love, love, love the expression on your girl’s face there. That says all that needs to be said.
I’ve heard about these, but had no idea they were scented. So…odd.
We have some in one of our cabinets. Someone convinced Danny that they would work, and he was so desperate that he tried them in spite of my telling him they wouldn’t. I’d already helped my mom use them on her ears, and the stuff that they supposedly pulled out of her ears looked like the beeswax from the outside. Same result when I helped Danny do his. Sheer quackery in my opinion. If you need proof, I’d say use Bonnie’s test. I’m sure you’ll get the same results.
And scented? Puh-leeze! Aren’t there enough scents being spritzed about? People! Cool it with all your man-made scents! Stop covering stinky things with more stinky (Febreeze and air freshners) and just clean. If you must use perfume, use it sparingly. Do not douse yourself with the entire bottle. There are people who can’t breathe around you. Sorry, I may have gone into rant mode there.
Don’t do it! I’m taking audiology and SLP classes right now. The pictures they show us of clients/patients that need help after ear-candling….oh the horror! Seriously, the pics and recountings were stomach-churning. Ick!
I agree about covering stinky stuff with other stinky stuff: I cannot breathe around perfume !!!!!!!! Never mind most of it smells BAD. Question, to those who wear perfume, Has anyone even once ever complimented you on what perfume you are wearing? I have actually thought of having a tee-shirt printed up that says, “YOUR PERFUME STINKS”.
Same goes for men’s cologne; YUK; they smell like they are way way way overdue for a shower in the worst way when they wear it.
And I HATE the way a room smells that has Plug-Ins, gives me an instant headache.
we learned about these in audiology… they don’t work… the gunk is the melting beeswax… although maybe if you have stinky ears it would fix the problem???
Have never tried these but have a holistic friend that swears by them, and I trust her. She has kept her MS at bay for over 15 years. I stopped wearing perfume but when I did I had lots of people tell me they recognized the scent. even at drive thrus. that told me it was too strong.
Actually – you stick it in your ear and light it and the smoke tunnels in your ear to clean it. You hold a pan under it to catch the melting candle. The flame is surgprisingly large. I did this for my husband and my kids were so confused and I think a little freaked when they walked in the room. By the way – it didn’t work for his ears but makes a good family story.
They’re scented to mask the odor of burning HAIR after you light it and stick it in your ear. 😉
