I’ve been neglecting my front flower bed for weeks because every time I dig around in there I come in contact with poison ivy. A couple days ago I decided to throw caution to the wind and get the bed weeded.
I told Clay, “I’m going to get poison ivy from cleaning out that flower bed.” He looked at me with concern and said, “Do you know how to identify it?” I furled my lip and mocked him in a high pitched stupid voice, “Yeeees, I know how to identify it!” Then he whipped out his Iphone, touched a few buttons and held it up to my face and calmly said, “Okay, does it look like this?”

I looked at the picture and said, “Yes. That’s exactly what it looks like!” then I walked away to pull up more poison ivy.
And yes…I have a rash on my arms, my leg and my side. Thank you for asking.

Oh thanks. Now I’m singing “Poison Ivy” in my head. It’ll take me at least a week to get it out of there!!!
I’m not allergic to the stuff. I feel for you.
Ouch, I mean ITCH! So sorry. Any time I’ve had poison ivy I’ve headed straight to the doctor’s office b/c I’m thinking furious scratching goes on in my sleep. Hope yours goes away quickly and virtually itch free.
Be careful with that stuff! I’m not sensitive to it, but my husband sure it….he is still recuperating from a three week bout….arms, legs…covered with it…two trips to the Urgent care clinic…a shot in the rump of cortisone….Prednisone for 10 days…and now he has developed an allergy to the Prednisone and has hives that are worse than the Poison Ivy was!
Wow! Clay is so helpful!
Oh, I feel for you! I really hope you got it treated right away, that stuff is awful! I’m assuming you wore gloves, but obviously that isn’t enought with that stuff. Clay needs to step up and clear out the rest of the poison ivey for you! Clay, are you listening?
Make him go and pull the stuff. I can’t get to my usual compost spot b/c the soys are in the way so Dh said “dump it along the lane”.. the lane to the back of the farm is lined with PI. I even think the words, I break out…. I found a non-contaminated spot and refused to step anywhere near it when dumping the gator.
Do you have any allergy meds, steriod cream, and rubbing alcohol?? If not, you need all 3. It’s Aug and I’m HOPING to finish this summer without any… knock on wood…
Just had it-my nephew put straight bleach on his and it dried it up. After searching online I used half bleach-half water solution and applied it with a q-tip. It really worked and dried it up and didn’t hurt my skin.
It is a good thing you cleared all the poison ivy from your beds. Too much of THAT kind of ivy could be dangerous for you and for CLAY!
I use the long yellow kitchen gloves when working in the garden now just for that reason! I have not gotten Poison Ivy all year this year!
I used to never react to poison ivy. Until the time I got into it during one of my zillion pregnancies. Now I do every time. Stinking kids.
I have never had poison ivy, but one of my son’s gets it by just looking at it! Oh my, I hope it never grows in my garden!!!!
You can just mix some agricultural lime with water or lemon juice, or both and put it on the rash. Some people dont like the lemon juice, tingles a bit but I personally prefer it. This will flake off all over your house but helps healing speed, and you can always vacuum and sweep in relative comfort rather than by running a hoof rasp over your skin until its all gone, the skin not the rash because you know it will just take over the underlayer of your skin… JK its not that bad! I hate PI and I am terribly allergic, but the lime thing really does work. Some people use bleach, but I have seen that eat a rapid hole in clothing I think I will wait on that one…
That’s hilarious! (Not the fact that you got poison ivy, but the fact that Clay was so quick to find a picture to help you out!) ahaha
