I want to be a belly dancer when I grow up.

This video makes me all kinds of happy.  I think Clay and I have watched it 162,000,000 times.  We’ve memorized the moves to the best of our abilities and I’m sure that there is a belly dancer somewhere deep inside my soul.  Oh, and the soccer players aren’t so bad either.

  • Yes! This song always makes me want to dance–and almost makes me want to start watching soccer. Weird. I think you and Clay need to make a fan video for this song!

  • Mamma Pants

The whole time I’m watchin’ this, I only see YOU dancing, April. This was made for you! So you gotta dance and video it for us – your fans. And please dance in the doorway so we can see the kids getting in the frig behind you and totally ignoring everything you’re doing. Life in your house makes me grin every time!

  • Oooh, I love this! LOL yes, April, you should do your own video of this!! I love African music. It’s always so happy, you just want to bust loose, smile your head off, and shake your groove thing. And it makes me want to cry, too. Not this song, but if you’ve heard hymns translated in Congolese, they seem to mean it more, for some reason.

And to completely ruin the moment, I can’t help but giggle and think of Fozzie the Bear off The Muppets at the Waka Waka part.

I’ve seen some of your dance videos and you totally have the moves needed. Go for it!

  • Yeah I was looking for the video of you doing it… you’re teasing us here!

  • Bre in KY

Go for it! You guys totally have the moves! I was watching the Rakadu Belly Dancers here in Lexington today at an arts fair…I wanted to shimmy my hips like that too! LOL…doubt I can pull that one off though!

  • YEAH! We “dance” to this in Zumba! It’s one of my favorites.

  • KatyK

You can’t share this and NOT do your on rendition!

  • I’m in agreement. We need video.

(And if you really want to belly dance, check around. There are lots of dance studios and clubs that teach it. Seriously. And they want those of us who do not fit the model body type if you know what I mean.)

  • Hmm, I don’t think you would find some of those moves in most belly dance routines… but the art does encourage a lot of individualization!

And what bdaiss said– there are studios and teachers all over the place, and even DVDs if you can’t find one of those. And bd as an art is very accepting of different body types.

Love that song! Actually I think those were mostly African dance moves – now THAT is an aerobic kind of dancing! I was enjoying the background drummers. And you should totally make your own video!

  • Please please please make a video of you two dancing!!!!!!!!!!!

  • km

That was great to see after the cup fever has died down. I am frightened by the amount of players that I know the names of. Even the old days videos with Maradona and Pele etc. Do you know how much soccer is watched in this house???Hours and hours and hours and hours. In fact there’s a Man City game being tivo-ed right now I think.
Hours and hours and hours of soccer watched, hours of soccer played. Hours and hours and hours of swim meets. Miles and miles of chauffering. Now I’ve figured out where my time goes……………

  • Bless you for liking this video! Most of my friends look at me funny when I say I love bellydancing. When I practiced the moves in the mirror I looked significantly more ridiculous than anyone in the video. Mostly because they didn’t look ridiculous.

  • Can’t wait for the Coal Creek Farm version!!

  • Now I want to see a video of you and Clay doing the dance.

  • Annie H.

LOVE IT! Makes me want to dance too! Thanks for sharing the video.

  • Lindie

great video and I hadn’t seen it before!

  • Lydia

Puuuuullllllleeeeeesssseeee make a video for us!!!!!! LOL

    Great song!

  • Oh, girl. Really….you gotta learn to hoop dance. Hula hoop dance, that is. You’ll look like Shakira and dance like that in no time. Trust me. Sorta.

  • I’ve never seen this video before. I kept thinking the whole time that Waka Waka is Fozzy Bear’s thing. :)

  • How can you not love Shakira? The girl somehow knows what a gift a body is and she moves with such joy. She just makes me smile. April – you would make me smile MORE, though – seeing you do those moves! Count me in on the vote for a Coal Creek Farm version of this!

And total amen on the African renditions of hymns and worship music. Whenever I put it on I sing, dance, and weep – I don’t know – it just speaks to my heart in the most amazing and profound ways. I’m pretty sure there’s going to be an awesome African worship leading team in heaven!

  • Debbie from Illinois

I will be waiting for the Clay and April version!!!!!

  • Stephanie

This cracked me up – watched and laughed, then had to figure out who won the world cup.

  • CeeJay

I was hoping you and Clay (& the kiddos) were going to pop up in there somewhere. :)

  • Oh I can’t wait to see y’all do that one.

    Please?

  • Diane

Whatever dance that is, it has YOU written all over it. I’ll just sit here and wait with all the others. :-)

  • Kate

When is the video coming???? Where is Clay’s next chapter????

  • Jo

I can’t wait to see the Coal Creek Farm Dance Troupe do this!

  • Um, we have all been waiting patiently for the forthcoming video. Just saying.

  • brandie

i really like all that stuff in her hair…totally wish i could pull that off! when you do YOUR version, be sure to put some junk in your long, blonde locks :)

  • Kathy

Wow, yes, I agree with so many comments above:
    – I think there will be an awesome African worship group up in heaven
    – I want to see a video too, especially with your kids in the background doing regular stuff or maybe they can be playing the drums.
    – And yes, definitely put some junk in your blond hair. I will look terrific.

Now I have to add my own comments:
    – I want to belly dance too. Or be able to move at least a fraction of the moves a belly dancer does.
    – Even if I learned all the moves, I’m sure I’d not be able to get through a session without falling down in giggles.
    – Do you think this belly dancing stuff makes God smile too?
    – I want to learn how to play the drums too. Just had to throw that in there.

Always enjoy the smiles you send with your posts. Blessings for your week, whenever you read this.

  • I can do that. I used to, anyway. Really. Matter of fact, Kay Yotty and I were the first two people to dance The Twist in my high school. Next day, my stuffy girlfriend thought we should break up cuz she said that it was vulgar. Hah! She was jealous cuz she couldn’t rotate her hynie wagon as good as Kay and I could.
