Compliment Guys I’ve mentioned these two guys in a previous post, but it goes without saying that they are just sweet with a cherry on top. I was encouraged years ago by a very smart woman to try to dose out ten compliments a day to people, that was before I became Captain Sarcasm.
It’s not hard to be nice to people and doesn’t it just make you smile? Okay, it’s also not hard to be sarcastic….and that makes me smile too, but still. I’m going to encourage my children to try to give ten compliments a day and who knows, they might end up standing on a street corner with a sign yelling out nice things to strangers….that doesn’t sound crazy at all.

I love these guys! I am a complimenter and I don’t think you should ever hesitate to tell someone (even complete strangers) something nice about them.
Hmm…
Love the idea! Didn’t like their execution, though. But then, clothing compliments have always rated low in my books. Is it just me, or does anyone else think they sounded condescending complimenting people on their shirts?
BTW, April, your blog rocks! I look forward to reading it every day!
I live in Texas and there are some serious rednecks around here. I don’t know if it would be possible to find something to compliment about some of the people I run into. Hi, nice sleeveless wifebeater just sounds wrong.
I actually live by Purdue where these guys go to school. They stood out at the same times every week for the whole school year and gave out compliments. They say they are going to do it for their whole time at Purdue. I don’t think they sound condescending. When you only have a couple of seconds contact with a person you don’t know you are not left with many choices on which to compliment them. Smile, hair, clothing, jewelry. I think it’s the big picture of what they are trying to say. If that just sticks in the minds and makes a small percentage of the people they come in contact with think about it, that’s a good thing.
It just comes naturally for me to compliment people whether I know them or not so I appreciated this video! You go guys! Thanks for sharing it!
Whew! Kat! I thought if I said that I would just be marked as “negative” but yes, I didn’t care for the execution either. It sounded shallow and somewhat insincere (though I wouldn’t want to judge their hearts). It seems like they could carry out this mission just with the people they interact with during the day and not make it a street corner exhibition.
My critical two cents!
I love it, April!
This made me smile. I challenged everyone I know to compliment at least one person a day for a week.
Thanks for sharing that video. Stopped by today to let you know I gave you a shout out on my blog.
Love these guys. I’ve seen a video before, but I don’t know if it was the same guys. I like watching people bristle when they think they’re being mocked, and then realize that someone is trying to pay them a real compliment.
It’s made me more aware of giving compliments whenever possible, and being more gracious about receiving them. Instead of retreating into embarrassed modesty I say thank you and deliberately (and visibly) allow myself to glow with delight and enjoy it.
Jennygirltherat ” like watching people bristle when they think they’re being mocked, and then realize that someone is trying to pay them a real compliment” I lived in NYC for over 10 years. When you have had years of verbal harrassment from every form of male idiot it puts you a bit on the defensive.
I think while in front of their van people might be more receptive, but two people with a bit of cardboard in Central Park well then, “move on tourist !!”
Cute idea in their set time slot on campus, but on the road, I don’t know. It brings back too many “Hot Mama!” catcall memories.
I just called my sister a “Pretty sweet loser”, normally I would just call her a loser but I will try it your way today.
