I say, YUM! Today it should be green oatmeal cookie frozen custard. :/
No Ted Drewes here. But oatmeal cookie sounds great!
Cardinal Sin! (hot fudge and sour cherries)
I know I know! Pick me!!!!
(St. Louis – about a mile from my house)
And I’ll have a Crater Copernicus, please.
Lurker here, Ted Drewes drew me out! St.Louis of course! I get the Hello Dolly….mint and macadamia nuts…
I grew up in a small town in Illinois about 50 miles from St Louis. I now live near Chicago and get my custard fix at Culvers…a two scoop Turtle, please.
Apple pie/cobbler. Yum-E! Dad’s Oatmeal Cookie sounds delish too.
mmmmm…frozen custard. They don’t have that so much here in Maine, but in WI where I grew up, they have a chain called “Culvers..” I have to say, Ted looks a bit less cookie cutter than Culvers. Sigh. Oh, for spring…it’s almost here….
Enjoy!
Growing up in St. Louis, every summer included a Ted Drewes outing or two. In Chicago now, we have Scooters for concretes. Love the picture – reminds me of shorts, tank tops, sitting on the car roof….
…and I say, “That sounds goooood.” I don’t know where you are, but can you provide driving directions from California?
St. Louis! Route 66!!
My inlaws live in St. Louis and when we visit (from MN) we HAVE to go to Ted Drewes! I like visiting in the fall…because the Pumpkin Pie Concrete is my fav….real pumpkin pie pieces in it!
Culver’s is good — but Ted’s has the best pumpkin pie concrete. I’ll have to try the oatmeal cookie next time. Guess that means I’ll have to consume TWO concretes!
I always ordered Cardinal Sin. Chocolate and cherry concrete. Did you go to the zoo and the science museum? I used to live in Dog Town. Housing built for the workers of the World’s Fair. How I miss St. Louis.
I have actually been there once. It was a stop on our road trip a few summers ago.
Ah Sain’Loooey! I lived there for a few years. Totally miss Ted Drewes! I’m with Cheri – Pumpkin Pie please! We used to get the little custard cups catered in when we had big meetings. *sigh* I miss the Loo.
And for Maria – Culver’s is a chain and you can now come have some in the Black Hills of South Dakota. It’s pretty yummy, although not as good as Fjords (our local dipping shop of fame).
St. Louis–we had one of our first dates at Ted Drewes! Love that place and miss it lots!
I have no clue but it sounds delicious.
I went to visit a friend years ago and we saw two things – the Arch and Ted Drewes! Yeah, my friends are good ones. (Something chocolate)
Fox Treat! Pumpkin Pie Concrete in the fall-it beats all others!
mini banana chip (that’s bananas and chipped chocolate… not banana chips, but I never have to explain it to them, because they just know!)… used to be mini mocha chip.
ahhh… nostalgia. we used to live a couple of miles north of the one on Grand, but we usually went to the one on Chippewa. we haven’t lived in St. Louis since 2000, but we still make it back at least once a year, and ALWAYS go to Ted Drewe’s at least once while we’re there. In fact, we have a picture hanging in our house of a Ted Drewe’s concrete cup upside down with the Ted Drewe’s sign showing in the background.
Thanks for the happy memory!
The Show Me State!!! I grew up a little over 2 hours south west of St. Louis! Love me some Ted Drewes!
Did you know they sell Christmas Trees during the Holiday season???
Ahhh, fozen custard. Ted Drewes is good, but Bob’s Frozen Custard in my hometown of Belle, MO beats it hands down!
I’m right there with you oh favorite sister in law of mine!!!
Don’t have.a.clue. what you are talkin’ about!
I’ve been a lurker, but had to answer this one! You are here in my home town of St. Louis, MO. Ted Drewes (on Chippewa AKA Route 66) is one of the places we always take out-of-town visitors. My hubby always gets a chocolate chip concrete and I get a mini hot fudge sundae. I LOVE the taste of the hot fudge and cold frozen custard combined. MMmmmm Enjoy your time in St. Louis. The weather should be nice on Thurday and Friday!
From AK, but just had to chime in and say, “I’ve been there!” Almost two years ago, We had a city pass to tour downtown St. Louis, but the Mississippi flooded and changed all our plans. So we headed out of downtown, found a pizza place, then on down the road found Ted Drewes. Loved it!
why do you keep saying concrete at a custard place? I am confused.
I have no idea where you are, but if there is frozen custard involved, it has to be good!!!!
I’ve gathered from other comments that you’re in St. Louis. Have fun!
Dang it………I’m just starting a diet! It’s taken all I have not to visit our local spot for a bit of frozen raspberry cheesecake yougurt……and now I REALLY want an oatmeal cookie one….I wonder if they make them here? Please think of us weak weak pitiful dieting souls before you post anything about food. I’ve had to avoid PW for this first week just because I am so pitifully weak!!!…… ok big breath……I think I’m going to pull through now :0)
Oh I am so jealous-you lucky, lucky girl in my favorite city in the whole world—say hi to St. Louis from us!!!! Have fun see you back at the school on Monday.

st louis!
awww… i miss home!
i usually get a mint chip or mocha chip concrete…when you mix flavors they use a larger size cup!
our family picks out a tree every year from the parking lot, too.
Ted Drewes and then Culvers. . . now Graters. So if you ever get further east to Cincy or Louisville, stop in for bourbon ball at graters. ITs great!
You’re in St. Louis… Specifically on Chippewa in South City, about five blocks from my house!
I hope you had a great visit!
Lucky!! Saw Ted Drewe’s on the food network before & it made me want to go there. Too bad I’m way over in PA!
I’ve never had frozen custard!! I want some!! Gotta find me some out here in California. Sounds yummy.
I once made a road trip there from Mizzou for one of those. Worth 4 hours in the car. Totally.
We don’t have those here. We do have a Shakes and our best friends own it. The only thing better than a Shakes concrete is….a free shakes concrete!
Not fair!!!
Not fair.
Chocolate chip all the way! I grew up in the city of St. Louis (and I mean city) till I was nine, and we lived a couple streets away from Dad’s Cookies. Sometimes we would walk there. The cookies are kept in these large barrels with lids. They were almost the size of the construction barrels you see on the highway. You could request a single cookie or you could buy them by the pound. If you bought them by the pound, they would take a brown bag, and fill it with your cookies (chocolate chip, coconut macaroon, or oatmeal) and weigh the bag on one of those old metal scales. Then, they would tie up the bag with string – real string. The string was on this big (maybe 5 inch) reel that sat on the counter. It was just a little storefront shop in the middle of one of the city blocks. I think they are still there. I really need to take my kids there just for the experience. I called them the other day to find out where they get their cookie barrels (I wanted one for some reason, I can’t even remember now), and they said you can’t buy them anymore – theirs are antiques. Longest comment on record, signing out! BTW, I’m a new reader – found your blog through a friend’s blog; really enjoy it! Nice work!
Just celebrated my kids’ straight A’s on their report card with a treat: hot fudge sundae for me, Reese blast for the 13 yo and hamburger and root beer float for the 7 yo. Following Damn Ramsey, it was a cheap treat on the way home at Sonic. So glad I have smart kids so I can get a chocolate fix before bedtime.
You must be in St. Louis!!! That is one of my Daddy’s favorite places to go. YUM!
When I was in college we had a place called Shakey’s that made concretes. I really liked the fudgy monkey.
hmmm…have no idea where you are, but I do enjoy a good old fashioned oat meal cookie.
I’m thinking a concrete must be a very thick milkshake. sounds delightful!
How far is St.Louis from Augusta? I think I need some concrete!
My first trip there last summer in St. Louis. What a lot of atmosphere and fun in the parking lots!!!
Never heard of it so I must not live close! I sure could go for the custard part tonight. I seriously could use an ice cream break…
You were in St Louis???!!!! And didn’t have a meet up???? Sorry we missed you!
Lunch or dinner on the Hill? That’s our fav. Dinner on the Hill & then Ted Drews. Yum.
St. Louis! Ted Drewe’s is one of the only good things in this godforsaken armpit of a city.
A day at the Arch, a carriage ride on the riverfront and a stop at Ted Drewes. Sunshine and 70 today. It was perfect. As for Kate’s remark – get a life, Please!!!!!!!!
