We’re headed to Wichita for state basketball tournaments today. I can’t say that I love Wichita. It’ always a huge mess of construction whenever I go there and the only reason I travel there is to watch my children play sports. If you’ve been reading this blog long enough you know that sports are not exactly my favorite thing, but I have a husband and children that love them…so I’m a reluctant sports’ mom.
Actually, I must admit this little secret. Come closer so my husband can’t hear…I’ve kind of, sort of, maybe a little bit enjoyed this basketball season. And let me tell you why….boys. Please don’t tell my daughter this, but the boys team is really fun to watch and I have to sit through my daughter’s games in order to see the boys play. The boys have had several games that went into overtime and they’ve come back from being far behind to win and their games are just so much more…like watching basketball.
Okay, so really I’m going to state basketball to sit through my daughter’s games and to watch the boys play. I’m a terrible mother, please don’t tell my family.
And one more thing I need to tell you, Ellen hasn’t made it through a game without body flopping on the court at least twice. She is constantly on the floor and by the end of the game she usually has a list of injuries that she’ll need a day or so to recover, elbow to the gut, jammed fingers, poked in the eye, scratched on the nose, bruised knee and the list grows. So, I think it only appropriate that I re-post this video to give you a little peek of her sweet flopping moves and then you’ll essentially feel as though you’ve seen her play basketball.

Good Luck Ellen!!!
Sports don’t do much for me either, but I LOVE high school basketball, both boys and girls.
Ellen…like mother, like daughter??? OUCH!!
Have a great time in not so great Witchy-Ta!
good luck! Your videos make my day! I can’t say much for Wichita either. We lived in Newton for 5 years and I couldn’t wait to get out.
I LOVE that video.
Poor Ellen, she’s just like her mom!
My husband and I are constantly laughing at your videos! We love them.
Okay, I opened this up because I saw the word ‘witch’ and ‘turd’ in the same sentence. I’m a mess.
Love your videos. Are you saving up money for Ellen’s therapy sessions?
At least for basketball you are sitting inside a nice dry environment. We just signed up for Little League BB (help me) again. Boys #4 and #5. Every single game and practice in the Great Northwest is in the cold rain. Every one. Why? Why?? Maybe they could start Skyping the games and I’ll sit by the woodstove with the laptop while they play. Yeah!
And I thought my son was the only one who fell down in basketball (baseball, football, soccer, lacrosse, pick a sport, any sport).
My son starts his tennis season March 1. Guess what coach requires them to do this Saturday? Shoveling the snow off 8 courts for 4 hours!
Enjoy your time in the big city!
You’re a good mama, but I have to disagree with your assessment of high school basketball. Boys basketball may be more flash and show, but high school girls basketball is the purist expression of the game. Who needs flash and show when you’ve got skills and teamwork!
You guys are hilarious. I love your sense of humor. You could make a movie to show here and I would watch it.
Oh no! I hope that’s not what my parents thought when they went to my basketball games! Although, strangely, we DID always stay for the boy’s games…
The video was hilarious!!!! The best part was hubby slowly walking down to see if she was okay while listening to her moan. I just died laughing! Thank you!!
So, so happy that I wasn’t drinking anything while watching the video. Clay’s expressions are priceless and Ellen has real theatrical talent. I thought she’d broken her leg there for a second.
Love reading your posts and the video’s are the best. The way you family interacts and enjoys one another is really fun to watch \ read!
The fall is the best acting I’ve ever seen.
Love that beautiful KU campus!! =)
April,
Ya’ll are hilarious!
This should be an olympic sport. Way more entertaining than curling!
that was great! Have fun in Wichita.
Wichiturd! I love it. A friend of a friend moved to KC from somewhere like Ohio. He called one time and said “there are all of these signs for Wacheeta. Have you ever heard of Wacheeta?” Ever since we heard this story years ago, we call it Wacheeta. But Wichiturd is better. It requires no explanation.
Hope everything has gone well for your teams at the tournament.
Ellen WILL get even one day! Your entire family is delightful.
Hey, at least you go to her games! Poor Ellen. Ouch.
your post was making me smile throughout!
after cheering our two sons to state finals,
we then had the fun of cheering their baby
sister. the differences were astounding and
sometimes hilarious.
hope you do well in wichita, a city i am very
acquainted with.
blessings,
lea
Love your videos! Good luck to Ellen this weekend!
This post cracked me up! My 14 year old daughter cannot make it through a game… a period… maybe even a play without ending up crashing to the floor. It is hilarious. Although – what isn’t so funny – is that in their last game she was playing REALLY well and she got BITTEN on the arm! As in there was a bruise and red marks the shape of some girls dental impressions on her tricep! I couldn’t believe it, thankfully it didn’t break the skin, but holy cow…
After a zillion years of busting my butt on bleachers of all sorts, I attend childrens sporting events only if I am related by blood to a participant. My husband, after coaching for a zillion years, goes to every event (especially girls) he can. Go Ellen! Rah! Rah!
Do you kids attend a Christian School?
