The girl is the one that would never stay out of things when she was a toddler. She was the child that drew a continuous line on every wall around the entire house with a red sharpie marker when she was two years old. I know…it’s amazing she’s still alive. Ellen was and is a curious child. She has to touch things, make things, dink with things. It’s a creative thing. It was no surprise that she grabbed the icing bag and told her little brother to hold still.
We celebrated Isaac’s 8th birthday a month ago. He is by far my most disheveled child. For evidence please refer to the crusty stuff on his shirt, the pizza sauce on his chin and if you could see the top of his head you’d know his hair stays combed in place for approximately .28 seconds a day. Frosting on his face? Not at all uncomfortable for him. All I know is that I send him to school clean and groomed and he comes home looking like he’s been in the jungle for ten months.
The baby will not be left out..no, do not leave him behind, unless you plan to suffer his wrath. And who is Ellen to turn down coloring on another blank canvas?
Please fear for her future.

Nope, not gonna fear for Ellen’s future. She has a creative, inquiring mind and the world needs people her. Her big problem will be trying to focus/specialize on one or two things. Love her.
She also has a great sense of humor. Wonder where she got it. hmmmm…
This is not the first frosting post you have done. Is that a staple in your frig?
She cracks me up! Like mother, like daughter. I’m just shocked that this was not your idea.
I used a black magic marker to draw a line through entire upstairs of our house when I was about 4 or 5. My mom had left my dad in charge of me. Bad luck for him, I was half way down the stairs with my “line” when my mom came home. Dad got in BIG trouble. DID I MENTION THAT I LIVED ON FT. BRAGG ARMY POST AS A CHILD? They has just painted our house. Then we repainted it behind their backs…POOR DAD
My God ! You have too many comments, now, and I’m scared to be lost in the massees

So, for this last post, ther’re just 4 comments, I would like to tell you another time how much your video clip is great ! I watch it several times a day, it makes me laugh and smile as often as the first time I’ve watched it !

Keep on blogging, April.
Friendly.
When my mom used to make wedding cakes for people, she would always let me use up old/flopped frosting on the cake tops after she leveled them (to make the tops flat). It kept me busy, out of her hair, and fed…well…sugarfied at least.
I learned how to pipe icing at the grand ol’ age of 3. And I learned that the best part of baking is the extras that nobody sees!
HAHAH, Oh I remember my little guys at 8 years old, what a great age, before they became punks.
Your Ellen is creative and cute.
I don’t think you have to worry about Ellen. I think that Clay may be the one who should be worried.
You know, I have three kids that would just suck the icing straight out of the bag and one artistic goofball who would do something like that. He’s the tall, funny boy featured in yesterday’s post.
What a good big sis!
HA!
Which one were you most like when you were a kid?
Oh, that Ellen is a looker!
I saw the “use up frosting” tag on another blog and came to visit. Really cute post.
what a fun bunch of young’ens you have there!
For the first time since I started reading your blog (ages ago) I was struck by how much Ellen looks like Clay! Mirror images! Maybe it’s the mole
Your kids seem like so much fun!
A good laugh is sunshine in the house. — Thackeray
Maybe you and Clay should consider solar power!
That was so hilarious. I love a girl with a sense of humor. She will go far I am certain, if not with painting with being a standup comedian. Your blog has made me laugh so many times. I absolutely love it.
That is just awesome! I wonder if my kids would let me give them icing mustaches!
A new use for frosting! It could change the direction of theatrical make-up forever!
Love the photos. I am just impressed that you own a pastry bag! I just use Ziplocs.
Love the mustache! Ellen looks to be as creative as her mother.
Wherever she goes, that’s where the party is! I love me some nut job kids.
Too funny! Brings back so many memories of my own kids “creative” moments. I have several “frosting face” pictures, as I was a cake decorator for years, and the kids loved nothing better than colored frosting!
Just wanted to say I love reading your blog. You guys sure have a lot of fun.
Love the Snidely Whiplash frosting mustache. BTW, what the heck is going on at your sisters blog? Is she OK mentally and physically? I’m worried.
what the heck is up with your sister????
Well, she’s doing a better job on her brother than I did on my first “Happy BirTday” cake when I was a kid! hehe
Love your blog, btw!
