The moon bit me!

Picture 131

When Clay and I went to our daughter’s formal last week, we had a wee bit of fun.  It is impossible for us to act too serious in situations where a moon and satin fabric are involved.  This photo is the most normal of the bunch.  Get this…I’m too embarrassed to post the others, I know!  So rare for me.  Can I also mention that it only took two dances for us to get all sweaty?  So yes, this is a photo of us all hot and sweaty with satin sheets and a sparkly moon.  This blog is now rated R.

Anyway, let’s talk about that moon.  When Clay went to sit down for our little sweaty/satin sheet photo session, he planted his leg squarely on the tip of that moon which must have been made out of titanium.  He calmly mentioned something about thinking he tore his pants, but never mentioned that on the inside he was screaming in pain.  The next morning as he came wandering in our room from his shower I saw the nastiest black bruise the size of a grapefruit on the back of his leg, “OH MY GOSH!  What the heck did you do to your leg?!”  And that’s when he looked back at his leg for the first time and stated, “Oh, yeah…that’s where the moon bit me.  It hurt pretty bad.”

Okay, Okay,  because I love you all so much and because I have no idea how or why this blog was nominated for Best Kept Secret in the 2010 Bloggies…I’ll share just a peek of one more photo…

Picture 133

Yeah…I promise the punch was not spiked, but my heels were.  And one more thing,  if Clay is in pain here, with that face, what do you think he looks like when he’s trying to make a really happy face?  I’m wondering if the school will allow us to come to another dance?

Seriously, thank you all for the sweet comments over the years.  I love hearing from all of you.  I love your opinions and questions and comments and concerns and well wishes and scorns and giggles and praises and finger shakes and sighs and, and, and well….I just love all of it.  You all keep this site going.  Thank you friends.  Thank you for nominating Coal Creek Farm, my little home away from home.  The door is always open for all of you.

You can click the button up there on the right and it will lead you to the 2010 Weblog Awards site where you can view all the nominations and vote for your favorites.  There are so many familiar faces there this year, it’s fun to see.  Voting closes January 31st.

  • Voted! And I’m sorry to hear about the moon attacking Clay like that.

  • Oh and it took my tiny brain a minute to parse that the ballot scrolls sideways. Lovely design. I kept thinking, “Why on earth would April send us to this static link with just deadlines listed? Why won’t this stupid page scroll down, is it loaded already???” Snarf…

April. you should be so proud of me, internet idiot that I am. I figured it out this afternoon and…voted for you! my husband was thrilled and amazed when he came home from work. Well; maybe not thrilled, but he was amazed. Then when I saw those blackmail quality pictures… what the hey, I’ve got a few of my own. Good luck chicken doctor!

  • kathleen

    P.S that second picture’s a doozy!

  • Melissa K

April, I LOVE that you chaperone a dance and have such a good time yourselves!! I don’t know if Ellen was embarrassed or not, but you guys were really being great role models to all the teens there!!!

Already voted for you. You so deserve it, although I would almost prefer you not to be “found out” by the rest of the world!!!

  • My son would never in a million years let me chaperone his dances. You have done such a good job with your daughter, she has such a great sense of humor and great self confidence. You are lucky that she can find humor in those situations. Mine would just shrink into a corner and try to be invisible.

  • You two crack me up. Please say you got a photo of him lassoing the moon for you.

  • I voted for you! I so enjoy your blog and hubby probably wouldn’t admit it, but he does too!

  • Jen

I love that you and Clay are so involved with your children! Voted for you yesterday…you deserve it!

  • Already voted for you! I am very happy for you, you deserve it.

Too bad for Clay that the moon was not made out of cheese. The Park Wife

  • Just submitted my vote. You are a gem! I learned about your blog from the Pioneer Woman and just recently added you to my blog reader. I grew up in Osborne (KS) county so I love that you are a KS farm girl too! Good luck!
PS (Hope Clay’s leg is better)

  • Liesl

Congratulations. Thanks for always making me smile!!

  • You are too funny… who else would think of sweaty satin sheets looking at this photo? BTW, I voted for this site on the 2010 Bloggies.

    Susan

  • I placed my vote yesterday. Just so you know… I voted for The Pioneer Woman last year and she won. I think I might be pretty lucky.

    Good luck. You deserve it!

  • I’m changing my name and going to my friends homes so I can vote over and over!
My first visit to you was back in the chicken pasty hiney days. I kinda miss the bantering between you and your sister that would go on in the comments. I too have a bantering sister.

I was surprised and very pleased yesterday to see you nominated for blog award. Of course I voted immediately for you! I’ve been reading your posts everyday for over a year, but rarely comment. Love you and your family. Keep up the good work. And good luck!!!

  • I’m another one who reads your posts every time you put up a new one but I rarely comment. I love your site and especially your sense of humor. Congratulations on your nomination ….I’ve been there and voted and I’m optimistic. Start planning on what you’re gonna wear to the event!!!! Big hugs.

  • Julie

No. Thank you. Your blog makes me smile!

  • Looks like you two had a blast! Congrats on the nomination. I noticed it the other day. Hope you win. :-) t

I love how y’all are so involved in your kids lives. My oldest is only a 3rd grader, but I’m already checking out dresses for that first dance. Keep up the good work!

  • AngAk

Oh you two goofy kids! voted. good luck!

  • Stephanie-Oh

You and Clay are such a fun, cute couple! I love you both and I don’t even know you! I bet you embarassed the heck out of your daughter. Don’t worry, she’ll get over it!!!!!Stephanie-Oh

  • I voted – I’ve been reading your blog for some time now – you’re hysterical!
    Good luck!

  • Peggy In TN

You betcha you have my vote. You have provided me with countless hours of entertainment. I love glimpsing your family life and farm. Thanks for the chuckles. ~Peggy

  • Marcia

I’ve been following your blog for a year or so. I love the sense of humor that your family has and how you all get along so well. I also voted for you a couple of days ago. Good luck.

  • Debbie From Illinois

I love the randomness of your blog!!!

  • So glad I can still vote – I tried the other day and it was closed. You’re a winner, April, no matter what. :)

  • jancd

I voted for you, too, and I hope you win. These pictures are hilarious. Glad you had fun. Hope your daughter had fun, too. She looked beautiful. Your sister, oh, your sister. Whatever did go wrong?

  • Hmmm….if you post the other pics-just a few- I’ll, I’ll….I’ll put something embarrassing on my poor, neglected blog. C’mon, you know you wanna.

  • Suzy

How cute! I have a picture of my great grandparents sitting on a “moon” and they have that early picture look…you know the look…REALLY posed…funny!
and I, like Jancd….what horrible thing happened to make your sister go so dark???

  • JoEllen

You crack me up! Love your blog! It looks like the dance was alot of fun! How could it not be with satin sheets and that gorgeous (and a little dangerous) moon! You and your daughter looked beautiful all dressed up!

About Rechelle–She sounds so incredibly hurt. I’m not sure what has happened to her, but I hope she can regain a sense of peace and joy. This anti-Christian, anti-homeschoolers, God-hating thing she has going doesn’t seem to be working out for her too well.

  • Axelle the french reader

… Oh, how much I would like to take fun, like this, with my husband !
    Your daughter was really beautiful.
… AND I WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE PICTURES OF YOU FUN NIGHT !!! I love them !! ;-) )
Thank you for sharing all those pieces of laugh.

  • I voted for ya cuz you funny!

  • jamoody

I have been going back and voting each day….are my votes counting each time? If so, how long can I keep voting?

  • Beth

I voted yesterday! (for you, of course!)

If they don’t let you chaperone again, those kids are going to be missing out!

  • Beth

jamoody–you only get one vote per e-mail address. So you latest vote supercedes the last one. Your just “updating” your vote each time.

  • Ditto what JoEllen said about your sister. My husband has brain cancer and it has turned our lives upside down. Do I think God is punishing him? Absolutely not. I have a better meaning of God now through all of this. I am much more at peace with my life and me.
I hope Rechelle is okay and I am glad she is speaking out, but her new beliefs have me thinking and wondering.

  • Ronda

So I voted for your site — something I’ve never done before.

Then I deleted your sister’s site from my computer — something I hoped to never do.

I will continue to pray for her and for your entire family, because a shift such as this must be something to behold in real life.

  • jaxcheryl

Ditto JoEllen, DVMsWife and Ronda. We witnessed many little miracles ten years ago when my hubby was in an accident that paralyzed him from the neck down. If we didn’t have our faith and trust in God and our commitment to each other I don’t know how we would have gotten through this.

  • What a fun place this is. I found you through The Bloggie awards. I came. I read. I added you to my list of favs. I went and voted for you. And, coincidentally, realized you are Rechelle’s sister. Don’t know how I missed your site before!

I enjoyed your sis for a long time but like others will not be returning to her site. I have no problem with people sharing their convictions and enjoy that kind of dialogue but she is just downright nasty about it. I feel like I am subjecting myself to abuse just reading her. I hope whatever pain she is dealing with will be met with compassion by those around her even though she seems to greatly lack compassion right now.

Sorry, I know you are not your sister’s keeper. I just feel saddened and unwelcome by the change in tone her blog has taken. And I am not even a homeschooler! :)

    Hope you win The Bloggie!

  • You guys are so cute! Congratulations on your nomination!

  • Dawn

Good luck! We’re all rooting for you. Start planning your trip to accept your award. The love and joy you all have in each other is wonderful.

Your sister. Oh my. She seems to have been full of anger since she got home from Europe.

Onward to the bloggies, April! You deserve this award. :)

  • Jill

Voted for you, April! You guys always brighten my day – especially if dancing is involved!

Everytime I see the movie posters for Grey Gardens I think to myself, “Rechelle and April did it first!”

Hope you win – my fingers are crossed. The chaperone pix are priceless.

  • Went right away and voted. You’re already a winner in my book!

  • Carrie

If you had THAT much fun at that dance, you can bet your sweet bippy your poor child wanted to crawl in a hole and DIE! I hope I can embarrass my own child half so well when she hits this stage! You GO!

  • Sheryl

I don’t have time to read your blog much, but when I do I love it. I am a mother of 8 children ages: 32, 30, 27, 23, 21, 16, 12 & 10. You are so delightful. I love your laugh. I wish you were down the road from our little 38 acres in Missouri. You’d be a fun one to share laughs. I have watched your “dancing” videos a couple of times because it reminds me of me and my daughters being silly.

  • Found your blog via Pioneer Woman mention. Very nice…I will be back. thank you!
