We went to my sister’s house Christmas night. This is the road to her house that we drove into a snow drift and spent about an hour being stuck. Thank God for cell phones. We called my dad and the Country Doctor to come help us.
Clay had to borrow one of the kids’ hats and my scarf to go out in the weather. The wind was awful, but he looked smashing in his winter outer wear.
Honey, I don’t care what you say, bangs are back and that scarf makes your eyes pop and well, the glisten of snow covering you is just…sparkly?
That’s my dad digging out the van for the third time. Thanks Dad! After they got us safely to the house they had to go back and help another fellow out of the same snow drift.
Thank you for coming winter, now let me show you the door.

Oh fun! I’m ready for winter to leave too and we’ve hardly had any snow!
Let me see if I understand this. You were wise enough to advise me to stay safely at home, but somehow your trip was of a more critical nature, and you were forced out into the weather? Better presents? Probably. At any rate, a friend came by and took the mower off of the tractor and put the blade on, so using the “I’m prepared, therefore I don’t need to be theory”, we should be done with the evil snow. And not a moment too soon. Smashing look Clay!
Living in sunny California, I just have to say that I am so jealous of your winter weather. I would trade with you in a second!
At least you got snow. Here in NJ we had 18 degrees with actual feel of -6 degrees with the 20 to 40 mph winds. Frostbite conditions. But not even a hint of snow.
I’m just glad to know your sister’s still alive and kickin’.
Glad to hear you guys are safe. Here in Cali we had no snow (last year we had 3 feet), but it is still getting to 20 degrees or colder everynight with 40mph winds (not fun!!)
We actually stayed home on Christmas for the first time ever because of the snow storm!
April, you guys need a 4 x 4!
Oh, man! He looks soooo cold. He reminds me of the guys from Dumb and Dumber when they pull into Aspen.
My kids laugh at me, but I grew up 25 miles from town before cell phones and I always have a coat, a blanket and ‘outerwear’ even if we are only going to the store when it’s yucky outside! Aren’t you so thankful for dads and shovels and dads who can operate a shovel?
Here in Oregon you don’t go out in weather like that without the necessities along because, well, you could be stuck for days or weeks and DIE. Many have, unfortunately. No cell service in the mountains either! We are required to have tire chains in the vehicles. We know how to do winter.
Happy New Year!
You either have to laugh or you’ll cry!
What a bummer…our Christmas was snowed in last year in WA. Great pictures of Clay! He does look great in sparkles.
We’ve never experienced that problem here in the South. Now on Christmas we had to have a canoe to get to our relatives’ houses…
I live in Georgia and we got some flurries last night. That’s enough for me, thanks!
Having just read your love story, it’s nice to know that your dad changed his mind about Clay.
I think that anyone who laughs at those photos doesn’t live with regular “stranded in snow” possibilities. Poor guy!
Clint was reading this over my shoulder and said Clay looks like Nicholas Cage in the picture with bangs. I think it’s weird for a man to comment like that, but whatever.
Clay always totally cracks me up!!
I wish you and yours a wonderful new year, April. I’ve come to really enjoy reading about your life and wonderful family.
Glad you were able to get out okay! Have a Happy New Year!
What a great family to come help you out of the snow drift. My family would have told me to call Triple A
Our ice and snow has not totally melted from the last storm and now we’re getting it again. It’s very unusual for us. Love the look, hate the cold.
Winter, Winter, go away. Don’t come again on any day.
Still about 6″ of snow gracing our necka the woods. And the weather guy says a week of frigid temps still to come. Ugh!
Methinks the problem here is that you were the one driving.
Nope. This girl grew up in western Kansas she knows how to drive in the snow. Clay…he grew up in the city…nuff said. Actually, we paused and thought about if we should try to bust through the snow drift before we said, sure, lets give it a go….bad idea.
I’m going to have to back you on this April. While I don’t know much about Kansas drivers, Clay grew up in Missouri, right?
Every year, with the first snowfall, it seems like folks here in the “Show Me State” have to be shown how to drive in the snow!!! It’s a very weird phenonmenon! And while I love this state and can’t imagine living anywhere else, that first snow fall each year makes me wonder sometimes!!!
What a trip! Glad you are safe and sound!
I am laughing out loud. Not at Clay’s hair, nor your witty remarks about his fashion… I’m laughing out loud while along b/c the dark circles and forlorn look on his sweet face seem to have gone unnoticed. Poor, poor Clay. So cold, so fashionly victimized.
That was supposed to be “alone”, not “along”
