Thankful

It’s Sunday, my oldest and my youngest have what I’m calling the Moo Flu, because we have pigs and I don’t want them to think they caught a virus from our pigs.  That might make the pigs feel bad.

I think I’ll make a thankful list today, because it’s Sunday and I don’t know what else to write.

I’m thankful for Tylenol and Motrin.

I’m thankful for my husband who cleaned the house yesterday while I volunteered for nine hours at a football game. that I didn’t watch,  nor do I know who won, nor do I care.

I’m thankful for my neighbor who is letting us borrow his trailer to haul our last two pigs to market on Tuesday.

I’m thankful for all the parents at school that volunteer countless hours to keep things moving smoothly.

I’m thankful for my friend that offers to help me when I need it and when I don’t need it, but she offers anyway.

I’m thankful for Hugh Jackman and the movie Wolverine….so, so very thankful for Hugh Jackman and thankful that Clay brought home that movie for me to watch, because of Hugh Jackman.

I’m thankful for sweatshirts.

I’m thankful for Isaac and his new love for reading and laughing as he is reading this post as I type it.

I’m thankful that Seth is practicing his guitar even though Clay might be practicing it more.

I’m thankful for a little boy running a fever that needs to ‘snuggle wis’ his mommy, because the days  of snuggling are numbered.

I’m thankful for you coming to read this most boring of posts.

What are you thankful for today?

  • Thankful for how generous and funny you are, April. Can always make me laugh with the “most boring of posts.” And yes, thank goodness for Hugh Jackman.

  • I liked this post. I hope you’re all feeling better soon. I am thankful for: Diet Coke, my dog Henry, and Netflix instant watch especially when I’m sick!

  • Pat

I’m thankful for bloggers who post even when they’re not feeling well. Also thankful for Hugh Jackman and Hugh Laurie (House)and PVR for TV. Thankful for Young and the Restless who make my rather mundane life feel very comfortable and safe by comparison. Get better.

  • Cassie

I also love Hugh Jackman in that movie. My fiance has a habit of seeing a hot girl in the movies and go, “oh now this movie just got better.” So when we were watching the Wolverine movie and Hugh Jackman came on the screen I turned to him and said “oh now this movie just got better”.

And I am thankful that MY kids are not sick… and I’m really hoping I didn’t jinx it. I hate flu season.

  • I’m thankful for your bee video because I have been sick as a dog for a very long time and it makes me laugh so hard, I almost pee a little.

  • Mother of Pearl

Today I’m thankful for my husband, apple pie, turtleneck sweaters, homeschooling, and all my friends who are always willing to watch my kids.

  • I’m thankful that you share your sense of humor in your blog and I’m thankful that I got to photograph our neighborhood’s Fall Festival. Little faces with big smiles always make me feel good!

  • Today I’m thankful that I lost 3 of the 5 pounds I put on, but never fear, I just made 12 dozen ginger cookies, and I have to make 4 dozen popcorn balls, so I’m pretty sure those 3 pounds will be back by the end of the week…

And who ISN’T thankful for Hugh Jackman?

  • Just finished watching “Kate & Leopold” for the 3rd time –
    — Hugh Jackman. Need I say more?

  • PortlandMom

    Oh, Lordy…Hugh Laurie! Thank you!!

  • I’m thankful for Oxyclean!! Oh blessed Oxyclean, I adore you. This morning, over pancake breakfast, I was pouring the homemade grape juice into glasses away from the table because I hadn’t removed the linen table cloth I brought home from Switzerland. I told the kids I was pre-pouring the juice over the counter and I wanted them to be careful not to spill the grape juice on the Swiss table cloth. You know where this is going don’t you?! Yes, about two and a half minutes after I said that one of my punks spilled not one but TWO glasses of grape juice simultaneously! Talented, my boys are. I think I may have uttered a swear word too. Anyway, I soaked the purplish Swiss souvenier in OXYCLEAN while we were at church. My Swiss linen table cloth is now restored like new. I can’t believe my ever-loving blessings. Hallelujah!

Hope the kiddos get well quickly, April!

I used Oxyclean on my wedding dress before my daugher wore it this year. 28 years after sticking it back in the bag and in my closet. That stuff worked wonders on lace that had browned from stains. Couldn’t even tell it was stained. I’m with you.

  • I’m with you on being thankful for snuggles from boys who are growing up far too quickly!

    And I’m thankful so many of your readers hopped over to my blog to see our pitiful buck house. I won’t be surprised if none of them come back-just a sad little post about a sad little buck house in our little corner of Alaska. :}

(Will I be ostracized for not knowing who Hugh Jackman is? I’ll go google him…not to worry).

  • Okay…so I’ve only seen one Hugh Jackman movie (Kate & Leopold), and that was a long time ago! Well, I’ve seen Happy Feet, but that doesn’t help much in recognizing him! And no…between my 3 children, my husband’s 2 jobs, our 4 goats, 13 chickens, 2 dogs, going through the adoption process, and homeschooling, I don’t watch many movies. *sigh*

  • I’m so thankful for everything in my life.

  • Nancy T

I am thankful for you–and Pioneer Woman–whose blogs I follow. Without you sharing yourself and your family and and all your wildly funny life experiences, I wouldn’t LOL as much. It also helps me to laugh at myself and know “it’s okay.” The bee video was so funny, I laughed so hard! I even called my husband over to the computer and said, “you’ve got to watch this!”

Hope you are feeling better. So nice of you to post even when you are sick.

  • Southern Gal

I’m thankful for everything I could name. Even the not so good stuff. It all happens for a reason.

But today I’m especially thankful for my 7 1/2 year old son who I get to be with all day every single day. How boring life would be without him in it.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • I’m thankful for you, April! And also Hugh Jackman. Different reasoning there, though. You know what else I’m thankful for? Australia. No, not the country! Have you seen the movie? It is so much better than Wolverine. But I’ll take Hugh Jackman anyway I can, even with adamantium claws. At least his are retractable. I don’t think I posted about the beard that Danny decided to grow after watching that movie and comparing photos from Wolverine and Australia. It looks great but it’s scratchy. I keep telling him that I like him way better than Hugh Jackman, with or without the beard, but I don’t know if he believes me. Silly man. Doesn’t he know that a re-enactment of the camp shower scene from Australia would be way hotter than a scratchy beard? Okay then! I hope I’ve made you laugh just a little and I really, really hope that you’re feeling better this morning. Time to take the kids to school!

  • Gayl

You are right about snuggles being numbered…so, I am thankful for every snuggle with my kids. They are in their 20′s now, and live on their own. But, when they are home and want a snuggle, and they do, it is heaven. Thank you for the best snuggles in the world!

  • Thankful the sun is out after too much rain and more coming.

Thankful all we have is a couple of boys with mild head colds that aren’t even slowing them down.

  • I am thankful for my husband who still tries to spoil me after 26 years. I ama also thankful for my job and the people I work with. And for blogs like this that make me spew coffe onto my sreen on a regular basis. Oh, yea Hugh Jackmon is pretty cool too.

Have a great week, and hope all y’all get well soon.

I am also thankful for every snuggle I get with my boys as they are growing up soo fast, only the youngest will publicly acknowledge me now. I am thankful for my husband who I have just been told that he is the most slimming accessory I own! Everybody says I look so little next to him! I’m 5’1″ 120lbs & he is 6’3″ and 250lbs! I am thankful for my large family & wonderful friends. I am thankful for our jobs & home. I am thankful for god in our lives. I am really thankful for my healthy family. And last but not least, I am thankful to April & Ellen DeGeneres who both make me laugh everyday!

  • Stephanie

The usual things my husband and boys, our health, our family and friends….

  • JenniferB

I am thankful that my daughter’s Moo flu fever broke yesterday, that my older daughter hasn’t gotten it (please, please, let her not get it). I’m thankful for Dr. Pepper, chocolate, overnights with friends, the scriptures, laughter, changing seasons, more chocolate, chocolate dipped caramels, and um, I should probably say “exercise”? ;) Oh, and I am SOOOO thankful for Hugh Jackman and Tim McGraw!

  • I’m thankful that God loves, cares for and watches over my family and me.

  • I am thankful for entertaining blogs. I am thankful for a great husband and two wonderful daughters. I am thankfull my daughter are good girls with high standards and good character. I am also thanksful for the small things in life such as Diet Pepsi, mexican food and wine.

  • Shay

I am thankful for blogs that remind me to be thankful for all the wonderful things in my life. I am thankful for the extraordinary little boy in my life who’s turning 6 today (even when he drives me crazy). I am thankful for his brother and sister, as well!

  • Kate

Antibiotics. I think I going to get me some at the big Doctors this afternoon 2:45pm appointment. I think I have something bad.

Thankful for entertainment however shallow the author might think it.

Thankful for kitties that sit on me and purr in attempts to heal me.

    Thankful for tea.

Feel better little ones. ( they are always little when they get sick )

  • Jackie

I’m thankful for my awesome husband and 2 wonderful kids. I really have no idea why God has blessed me so, but I do know that I’m truly thankful.

  • Awww, that wasn’t boring. It was thoughtful and reflective.

Let’s see….I’m really thankful my husband was able to get the fishing lure out of my hair this weekend without cutting it out.;o)

  • Mary

Thankful for insulin. My 13yo daughter was just diagnosed with diabetes, type 1.

    • Cassie Sue

Mary, just saw the comment about your daughter. My daughter is also type 1, and was diagnosed at 7 (she’s now 9). It is scary right now right after the diagnoses, but let me tell you, insulin is amazing and your daughter will be so happy and healthy because of it. I wish you the best of luck. While it isn’t what we would have chosen, knowing that just a few shots a day is all she needs to be happy, healthy and FEEL better, it is totally worth it.

  • Leslie

I am thankful for snuggles also. I have a 2 1/2 year old who wanted me to lay with him and sing him a song and I know that in a few weeks those times will be few and far between when he gets a new little brother who I am sure will be cutting into his snuggle time…hopefully we can all get our snuggles in.

  • Kim

I’m thankful that after a trip to the doctor this morning, my girl only has a really bad cold. Very thankful! Also, in the spirit of Halloween here are a couple jokes.
What do you give a person with the bird flu? Tweet-ment!
What do you give a person with the swine flu? Oink-ment!
What did the number zero say to the number eight? Nice Belt!

  • jamoody

Last night after a long car ride home from St. Louis (went to see Bruce Springsteen….thankful!!) my 17 year old baby boy fell asleep next to me in the back seat with his head on my shoulder. I am thankful for still having moments like that…no matter how rare they are!!

  • I have to say, although I haven’t yet seen that movie, that I’m thankful for Hugh Jackman too.

I’m also thankful that until now (which I’m hoping I’m wrong) we haven’t been sick – hopefully it won’t last long.

I’m also thankful for blogs like this that make me laugh and appreciate the every day.

  • AngAk

Like Jenni in KS, I am thankful for the movie Australia with Hugh Jackman and that shower scene :) . You must watch the movie Someone Like You—nice Jackman flick too. I’m thankful for the flu vaccine I got last week and for baked squash and meatloaf for dinner.

  • So sorry for your sick little ones April! I’m thankful that I got to visit both my grown girls this month…one in Washington state and one in Texas. I miss them, especially when they are sick and I can’t help them!

  • georgie

I’m thankful for blogs like yours. For the copy of Pioneer Woman Cooks that I bought today. For good health, a job that I love, family and friends, the pets, for a home that is welcoming to guests, and a furnace that works. I’m also thankful for my three year old neighbor who runs up to me and gives me huge hugs and says he loves me.

  • sue

what a wonderful post April! I too am thankful for Hugh Jackman. I have been thankful for him for a LONG time. Enjoy the snuggles.

  • JJ

My son is home sick to and I am very thankful for the snuggling time that we did get in – he’s ten and my snuggling days are numbered too! At least until grandchildren and there is NO WAY I am ready for that right now!
Snuggles with Hugh Jackman – now THAT would be something to be VERY thankful for!!!!

  • Kathy

I’m thankful for you April. I needed a laugh. Desperately. No, you don’t know me and we’ll probably never meet, but I enjoy reading your blog. If we lived next door, I’m sure we’d be friends though and I might even help you load your hogs. Today has been a hog loading kind of day for me here in cube land. Whew. Keep writing, even if you think they are boring.

  • I’m thankful for Coal Creek Farm; papaya spears, kitty cats, hot cocoa, time with my husband, The Smithsonian, my girl scouts, home grown tomatoes, and David Tennant because I love Dr. Who. (: And Hugh Jackman, of course.

  • susan in FL

I am thankful for bloggers like you who remind me that I am not the only person in the world that loves their husband the way we do. I am thankful for the husbands who return that love so obviously. Just warms my heart. Also I’m thankful for my husbands and my health and our grandbabies.
