It’s seems like a million years ago when our bees swarmed. This video makes me laugh every time I watch it. When I run across the drive way and do a little scream thing. You can hear my boots clomping and the stride that I was taking was either really long or I was running really slow. I think we all know it was the really slow one, but I felt like I was running fast. That part of the video has kept Clay and I entertained for months.

I subscribe to a great little magazine called Living the Country Life. The editor called and interviewed me after I posted our bee folly and I’m just getting around to sharing it with you. Through the magic of editing they were able to take out the nine-hundred times I cleared my throat. Thanks to my friend Mrs Mama I have the link to the interview otherwise I wouldn’t have known it ever aired since we don’t get the radio show in our area.
If you love country stuff you’ll enjoy Living the Country Life.

Oh my gosh! I love it! I wish we had a video camera when Hubby broke open a piece of firewood on our front porch (who needs an axe? Just whack it on the ground) and all of the weirdo bugs poured out. He did the la cucaracha dance for about 20 minutes.
I’d sooo love to be your neighbor!
So did they stay in that other hive after all of that?
That is hysterical! It doesn’t give me any peace about getting bees this spring though…it really really doesn’t!
P.S. I hope they did move in… I’m fretting a little over here.
Yes, Amy they moved in and took up residence. All is well, except we have no honey this year.
Thank goodness.
BTW I teared up laughing so hard and my son enjoyed it quite a bit. Can’t wait to see if you get yummy honey next year.
I see “stop, drop, and roll” works for bees, too! LOL : )
Ya’ll are too brave for me!!
I was bummin out because my wheel bearings are shot on my car and my emergency fund is non-existent. Then I watched this again. Your laugh is infectious and made my day. Thanks, I needed that.
That is the coolest thing, that you were able to catch the bees. I hope your bees do a lot better this next year.
You’re famous! April, I can’t watch video’s but I can hear you and Clay laughing about it.
That is too dang funny.
This is so funny, but I have to admit I was stressed out too. I hate bees and run around swatting at the air like a maniac when a bee is around.
That was super fun. My husband captured a swarm the same way minus the bee suit. He was stung quite a few times, he felt it was worth it though. He built a bee box (internet plans). We had bees on the property for just a couple of weeks and then they moved on.
No honey harvest but, it was an interesting experience.
Wow! That was so funny, but I’m glad it wasn’t me. I HATE bees. My son also has terrible reactions to them. I’ve banned flowers from yard just to keep them away. Glad it all turned out well.

I’ve been trying to read this post all day and could only just now get the page to load. Do you have lots of extra traffic today after Ree’s link on her cooking page? Okay, going to check out this link now.
Well that made me itchy…would you like a job charming the yellowjackets out of my house?hmmm?!!
My dad (us boys, too) did it the easy way. We put 3 or 4 frames in an empty super; we included a couple of spoonfuls of honey on wax paper, then set the super as close as possible to the swarm. Came back the next day and all the bees were contentedly constructing new cells inside the super. Then we took the super home, filled it with more frames and Voila! Locations included in the walls of homes, trees, bushes, cacti, eaves–other places. To the best of my knowledge, only one swarm was really angry and ornery. Best of luck next time.
Wow, but you guys are brave! I’m really allergic to bees, so I could never raise them myself… it doesn’t help that I’m a bit scared of them, too!
Had a friend a few years ago who had a business of going around and capturing swarms in house walls, etc. He ended up giving up the business when he became severely allergic to bee stings!
Whenever I have a tough day and/or feel blue, your blog is guaranteed to make me laugh and lighten up. Watching the video had me laughing so loudly that the dogs ran up to see what was going on. Thanks!
I’m a little sick to my stomach, but I was laughing so hard I peed my pants. But just a little.
Wow, it’s like open-air Arachnophobia! Love the Stop, Drop & Roll!! Thanks for the smile.
The best was you yelling “help your mother”.
Why is Rechelle not linked anymore? I liked being able to slip from one household to the other:)
Too funny! But man, I would never have the nerve to have bees…your reaction to one in your hair is EXACTLY how I would have reacted too!
I know I’m a little late but I’m new here. Anyway, that video is hilarious! My husband wants us to get some bees but I think he needs to watch this video first! Ha Ha Ha!!!
we just attended a beekeeping class yesterday and mentioned that in my blog. well, oklahoma granny sent me your link. LOL. too cute!! any tips for us to consider before we decide if we’re going to keep bees or not?
Oh good LORD. “HELP ME!! HELPYOURMOTHER!!!”
I just stumbled on to your website today and have been enjoying looking around. We just got bees last summer and I nearly died laughing watching your video. It reminded me of all the times I stood by taking pictures of my husband and kids working the hive. But nothing like this has happened…YET!!! I made my husband come over and watch the video too. What a hoot!
I had to come back here and watch again. I let my daughter watch it and now she says her husband has to watch it. Cause he wants to start keeping bees. She thinks it’s a good idea for him to see real live bee keeping. Heh, heh, heh.
