This year we are sending our oldest three to school! I put away all my homeschool books and folded up my denim jumper. I might teach Levi a bit of preschool here and there. Today I taught him the letter A, but I’m thinking he’ll stay home forever, so why bother? Oh, calm down, I’m just kidding about the teaching part but, he really will stay home forever, he’s the baby, I’m not letting him go.
Okay, so the first day of school is always exciting. We were up early and out the door with the kids loaded with supplies and me with a cup of coffee. Clay and I have made an agreement that he will start the coffee and I will make breakfast. We’re on day three now and I’m thinking he can make his own dadgum breakfast! I’m sleepin’! Who’s not a morning person? Raise your hand. Let’s form a club, we’ll meet at night while all those perky morning people are fast asleep, okay?
Let’s back up a few minutes to where I’m upstairs on the first day of school trying to fix my hair when Clay yells, “FIVE MINUTES!” which is his way of warning all of us that we have to start heading out the door. Since I’m still a bit blurry eyed I don’t look at the clock, I just start loading everyone up with lunches, grab my camera and my coffee and head out the door.
It’s a tradition that WHEN our kids go to school the whole family escorts them. We took two cars so Clay could leave from the school to go to work and I could go back home and crawl into bed like any normal person would. I threw the keys to Ellen to drive and I climbed into the passenger seat. That’s when I noticed the time.
Let’s see. Were we just a tad early? Hmm, 1,2,3,4,5,…yes that’s all of my family there in the locker room…where are the other students?
Oh, that’s right…THEY’RE AT HOME STILL GETTING READY FOR SCHOOL BECAUSE YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE FORTY MINUTES EARLY!!! It will be a while before I let Clay forget this one.
Mr. Glow-in-the-dark was very excited to go back to school this year. He already loves his teacher more than me and I love seeing how excited he is.
This one wasn’t very happy that he didn’t get to stay with his brother. Poor baby had to go home and snuggle with his Mamma and that made it all better. I’m telling you, he’s never leaving me.
Seth had a locker last year and after the first day he decided he didn’t have time to deal with a combination. This year he has to use it. Lucky for him he had a lot of time to practice opening it before classes started.
Mr. Early Bird showed him a few tricks to get it open fast.
Hugs goodbye. Happy boy, sad boy.
Her daddy always cries on the first day of school. It means they’re growing up and he doesn’t like that one bit.
Oh look, the other students have finally arrived. One more hug and kiss.
Time to go home, just you and me baby. He was upset here because I wasn’t holding his hand. Like I said, he’s not going anywhere, he’s my tiny tater tot. The older three are on their own, Levi and I are staying in bed.
