It’s true, I’m a Jayhawk.
I’m certain my boys were breaking some sort of campus law by crawling all over that Jayhawk. Yes, that’s a book in Seth’s hand, I think he re-read The Series of Unfortunate Events for the third or fourth time this summer and I guess he felt he needed to cart it along with him on campus that day.
I thought these photos would be good to post today, because I’m getting a visit from one of my college girlfriends, Katie. I haven’t seen her for probably twelve or thirteen years. She lives in California, but grew up in Kansas and I get to be on her tour of family that she’s visiting. I’m so excited! Most people call her Kate because she’s all grown up and professional now, but when I met her she was still Katie and she’ll always be Katie to me.
Okay, I gotta clean up the house and make some food for Katie and her boys. I’m making them brunch so their going to get to eat Coal Creek farm eggs and sausage. I wonder if her boys will be scared of the chickens? Sometimes city kids get a little freaked out about all the birds running around here.

Even though they are playing on the jayhawk, they are still behaving quite well!!! HOW DO YOU DO IT? My oldest would be trying to chip a piece off for himself, the middle devil, oops, I mean child, would be trying to sign it with a marker and give it googly eyes & glasses, the youngest would be trying to figure out how to get it home with him. My boys will need a leprechaun in our backyard now. (Go Irish) sorry, had to.
Ummm…we always said Rock Chalk Chickenhawk. (Guess where I went to college- hint- if you put the red and blue chic-I mean Jayhawk in a blender and mixed it up you’d get my school color.) My best friend went to KU so the KU-KSU football games were always fun!
You HAVE to give us an update on the Katie visit. We need to know if her boys are afraid of the chickens (or anything else, for that matter)!

Hey let them crawl all over it. Maybe they’ll break it! Go Wildcats!!!
I hope you have fun visiting.
Love the pictures!! Have many pictures with that same Jayhawk! Much cuter than a purple kitty cat don’t you think?:)
Rock Chalk Jayhawk GO KU!
Love the pix, but now am intrigued by the “living without” series. Am headed there now. Thanks. C
If you’ve got time to visit KU and then go home for a housecleaning, then…Pancake Flats and Coal Creek are apparently much closer than I thought.
I’m a Wildcat.
And when my younger daughter first saw the Jayhawk, she called it a chicken.
I had to cover my children’s eyes!! Our blood runs purple…but let me tell you, I laugh so hard at your blog, even if you do love that bird!
HAHAHAHA!
My 11yo boy walks around constantly with a book in his hand, even when we go to the grocery store. I love that I saw another boy with a book in his hand, I was afraid mine was the only one.
My family of Jayhawks lives by this poem, adapted for our purpose:
I’ve never seen a purple cat,
I never hope to see one.
But I can tell you, anyhow,
I’d rather see than be one!
Rock chalk!
Your kids are so cute! I used to go everywhere with a book in my hand. Sigh. Wish I didn’t have to work so I could still do that!
