Happy 4th of July!

I hope you all have a fun day celebrating our country’s birthday and if you are not in the USA, then I hope you have a fun day not celebrating our country’s birthday.

I’m making devilish eggs, muhahaha, ahem.. yeah.  There is a lot going on around Coal Creek Farm, we had two kittens born and then one died and now we can’t find the other one, but I’m pretty sure it is no  longer with us since the mother is hanging out on the porch acting like she never gave birth.  I have a broody hen (which means she is sitting on a clutch of eggs) on top of the workbench in the barn, but I have a feeling none of her eggs are going to hatch.  The apples this year all look like the face of ninety year old woman that spent most of her days in the sun.  The turkeys keep eating all the leaves on my tomato plants.  I missed the date for butchering my pigs because we couldn’t secure a trailer.  The weed trimmer is still in the shop.  I never finished planting one of my urns.  The front porch basket I filled with petunias is half fried.  My peach trees are dying, I was able to pull one right out of the ground and then I burned it.  Oh, and the knuckle on my left index finger keeps hurting!!  I’m sure I’ll wake up some morning with the whole finger deformed and twisted weird and pointing back at me in an accusing way blaming me for all the bad things I’ve ever done.

Excuse me while I go hide in the basement and weep for a moment.

Okay, I’m back.

This post is supposed to be about the two new places you can visit on Coal Creek Farm.  I’ve added Clay’s Life to the top navigation bar, well actually Clay added Clay’s Life. You can click and see all his posts.   He’s taken to answering all the questions that you’ve asked him which is fun and so nice of him.  Also, you’ll see a picture of Gary, Todd and Clay during their Junior year in high school.  I thought they were like ten or twelve, they look like such babies.

The other new spot is Stories from the Barn.  If you missed anything regarding our chickens, pigs, Preacher or other barn happenings you can find it in Stories from the Barn.  I’ll be adding to it and updating it as life happens around here.

Anyway, enjoy the two new spots if you have time and Happy Flappin’ Fourth of July!  So far, only one of my sons has burned his lip with the punks that they are carrying around.  I’m sure I’ll be reporting a different number of injuries before the day is done.

God Bless America and God Help ME!!!

  • A happy 4th to you, too.

  • Happy Fire cracker popping to you too! And here’s hoping nothing else is dying around the farm!

  • We’re more than a day late and more than a dollar short around here, too! LOL!

What is it that they say? If it weren’t for bad luck, I wouldn’t have no luck at all?

Yeah – it’s not THAT bad here!

We, too, have a broody hen. She’s setting on her first clutch of eggs – we’re 2 days out from day 21, so we’ll see. We’ve never tried this before, so it should be VERY, very interesting!

Have a GREAT day with family, April!

  • well alrighty then but just like Scarlett you can think about all this tomorrow and celebrate today.
Ya’ll sure eat a lot of pork have you already used up the last 2 pigs?

  • Sorry things haven’t been going so well for you lately. I like the additions to your site.

  • My MIL insists on calling them “angel eggs”. It makes me snicker every time I hear her say it. Josh and I were laughing about it the other day and he decided that whenever she does it he’s going to start saying, “No Nini, they’re (insert demonic voice) Satan’s eggs.” Okay, so you have to hear the voice for it to really be funny, but trust me, it’s hilarious. Oh yes, we have had long discussions about why deviled eggs are “deviled” and why it’s “devil’s food” cake or “angel food” cake.

So, do I have to subscribe to the different areas of your blog like PW’s? Or will it show up in my little blog reader thingy?
