The Architect

Hullo Mudda, I’m at camp.

I’m in Rexford Kansas otherwise known as The Oasis on the Plains.  No paved roads, no cell phone service, no TV.  Just a little camp that my kids go to with their grandmother every year hosted at The Shepherd’s Staff.  It’s the most darling place in the world.

The camp inhabits several buildings on the dirt Main Street that had a much different life before they were used for little campers.302

The Legion Hall is now The Theater where children perform their talents from piano to magic skits and my mother, Grandma Martha, puts on a wing-dinger of a puppet show the likes of which Jim Henson would be proud and every camper gets to be part of it.

This is my home for the week.  I got to come to camp this year so I could help with children that aren’t old enough to stay the night, we are calling them “The Littles”.  My two little boys and my nephew got to come this year and they were so excited they could hardly contain themselves.287 - Copy

My house is sweetly named The Prairie House.  It sits in between the Main Center and the one and only church in town, both on Maine Street of course.291

This hangs above my bed.  I feel like I’m living in Grandma’s house for the week.  Wait till I show you the refrigerator….it’s adorable.

Right now, I’m sitting in the basement of The Theater with all the campers and staff because their is a tornado warning just ten miles from us.  We’re in Kansas, no one panicked.  In fact a few of us adults snuck up the stairs so we could watch the clouds for a bit…..we all grew up in Kansas, it’s what we do.
