Lisa said it first, I owe her one meelion kisses. I’m getting out my chap stick now. For those of you that guessed Turken, you are CORRECT! Lena said it best when she called it a Chickey, because it has more chicken traits than turkey. It is a very nice bird, broad breasted and calm in nature. We only have one, but if it turns into a good layer it will be on my list of birds to get in the future.
Now, all you chicken experts out there, tell me what that fluffy headed thing is back there. Here at Coal Creek Farm we like diversity.
A variety. A big melting pot of feathered friends.
Who knows what the blue-legged spikey-headed thing is? Anyone? Anyone?
How about this tiny thing? We call her Tiny. I know, brilliant.
I know it’s hard, but try to ignore Mr. Giant White Head in the foreground and check out the little poof in the background. Guess what we named her? Poof. I know, genius.
Do you know what Poof is? She’s so darn cute, but she always looks like she just got out of bed.
I’m off to consult with Grandma Martha about who she chose to win Coal Creek Farm’s First Fabulous Give Away. I know it’s not going to be easy.

Spike, the punk rock chicken with blue legs, is my favorite.
The fluffy-headed chicken is what we have always called the Phyllis Diller chicken. I believe that is it’s scientific name.
The first chicken with the white crested head is a white crested black polish. The second picture looks like a golden polish. I’m not sure about Tiny. She might be a dark cornish bantam. Poof looks like a top hat.
That chicken does look like Phyllis Diller!
I think Poof is a Japanese Silky chicken?
I saw a special on PBS late one night and there was this woman who had one and treated it like it was a baby. Or how people treat small dogs, purse and all. It was cute and crazy at the same time, but made me want to have one whenever I eventually get chickens in my life.
The black and white Poofie head is a white-capped black polish. The white fluffy one is a white silkie (a bantam). The blue-legged spiky guy is a Golden Polish Rooster. Tiny looks like a bantam game hen, maybe. I am not sure. The white silkie will make a GREAT mother hen (she will hatch any chicken’s eggs for you)! The Polish do not lay many eggs but they are gentle and a beautiful bird to have around. What a great mix of birds!!!! I have the same type of situation here on my little farm.
I think you could name the black and white polish David Bowie…even though she is a hen.
Love the second photo with Spike hair…..what I like about the photo is it reminds me of the movie Chicken Run! Just read back on the comments…….Yes, yes, yes Phyllis Diller – it’s amazing!
The hubby won’t let me have chickens.}:( I’m jealous.
Chickens are cool – as long as someone else is taking care of them. I wouldn’t know how to keep all the predators away from them – bobcats, skunks, fox, blah blah blah. I’ll just buy my eggs from the likes of you, if that’s ok.
The poofy white headed on is a White Crested Black Polish. I have no idea what Spike is….a Golden Lace Polish? I have no idea. Poof is a Silkie and Tiny is a little Game Bantam-maybe an Old English or a Red Dutch.
Love the fluffy-headed chicken, but I love chickens. One day I’ll live in a country enough setting to have some chickens.

White crested black polish…we have one too. Golden laced polish…possible cross as it doesn’t look like a true Golden laced Polish, Tiny…..not sure, maybe a cross of some sort with some Old English due to the way the tail is being carried and I think Tiny is a rooster because of the pronounced wattles and comb. And Poof is a Silkie….either a white, buff or grey silkie, but it is a silkie for sure….we have those too! You have a good mix of birds there…..=)
Poof is a Silkie!!!! That’s my most beloved type of chicken, they are simply precious. I think Poof needs a weekly post to give us a taste of life from the barnyard side of life. Do you have more Silkies?!
Your chickens are super cute!
White crested Polish..Golden Polish…Poof looks like a Silkie..and, Tiny looks like a he not, a she..and of Bantam decent or a game cock..and, Mr.Giant White could be Cornish. And, our turkens were great layers. Kind of ugly when full grown with the naked neck and all.
*waves hand violently* IT A POLISH!!!
Tiny could be an Old English Bantam…but he looks like a cross of some sorty kindy thingy… game bird OR jungle foul – yes those are a real breed…
Oh we had those Polish fluffy headed chickens when I was growing up in Pa. Those pictures brought back so many memories. Thank you. I found your site through Pioneer Woman’s site.
i LOVE Pouf!! what a cutie pie (not a chicken pot-pie, of course!!) i love the variety you have in your chicken coop…such delightful diversity, indeed!
Wow, I can’t believe I won! Whoohoo
In the essence of fairness, I like all the chickens. BUT, Pouf is the cutest! I saw a few of the silkies last fall when my son went on a field trip. They really are beautiful birds.
I just came across this blog entry – maybe you can teach this “chicken whisperer” a thing or two.

You can go to Murray McMurray’s web site and look at the different breeds to see what you have. I think some of yours may be crossed and I am not sure on the Turken ours have no feathers on it’s neck which I think is how they are suppose to be. If they have green/grey legs they are usually have some game chicken in them.
i have 4 black and white poofy heads and 2 spikes. ( soon getting 2 baby pecoks )
